Avenger’s Damage to Manhattan

Without giving too much away to those who’ve not yet seen the brilliant Avenger’s movie, there is quite a bit of damage done to Manhattan in the final action sequences. Disaster experts estimate the cost of the damage to be in the region of $160 billion. Nice job Avengers! Must try harder, tut tut!

Enterprise Retires To New York

As the NASA space shuttle program comes to a close, a series of commemorative flybys by the remaining craft are producing some amazing sights as they glide over famous landmarks in the US. Here the Space Shuttle Enterprise flies over New York as it comes to land at JFK International Airport before being retired to the USS Intrepid Air and Space Museum. As one of the women being interviewed says in the news report, it is also poignant that the shuttle was able to fly over Manhattan with cheering crowds as New Yorker’s have taken back their skies. I’m sure Enterprise will be a very popular tourist attraction when it is installed on the Intrepid. It is a sad day though to be sure as it is an end of era for the US and it’s manned space exploration. Hopefully something new is being designed, a space craft that will continue the exciting work of its predecessor.

Mindrelic – Manhattan In Motion

Thanks to my sister for directing me to this amazing time-lapse video of New York. Great accompanying soundtrack and some very clever camera work help to make this video really capture a sense of the bustle in NYC and all the little intricacies that might go unnoticed.

NewPort State of Mind

Forgot to post this months ago. A truly brilliant spin on Alicia Keys ‘Empire State of Mind’. The original was awesome but this remix brings it to the masses of, well, Wales. Jokes… these two have made a fantastic homage to the original. Loving it!

“Put your hand in the air for a taxi, 50 quid if you’re sick in the back seat” sums up (broken) Britain in a tea-cup.

Capturing New York

This video does a fantastic job in capturing the essence of this beautiful and vibrant city. New York is not my home, I have lived in London my entire life, but for some strange reason, be it social conditioning through film and television or a fantastical dream of living in the city that never sleeps, I have an affinity with New York City. I’ve visited the place only twice in my few years, but long to be able to experience it as a local. In my visits, I’ve got a taste of what it might be like to be a New Yorker and got a sense of the feel of the city. This video really illustrates the small nuances and subtleties that might pass some by, but highlights the small beauties that help make NYC what it is. The iconic views, the people and the vibrancy. I can’t wait until I get to experience it again.
