Let’s End ‘Unboxing’ Videos

Have you ever come across one of those videos on YouTube where some nerd person is unboxing some new gadget they have just bought? Full of insight and helpful opinions that will ultimately make you want to rush out and buy what they have so elegantly unboxed for you. Well this video is the best one of those I have ever seen.

Evolution of the Mobile Phone

Cool video over at YouTube, using clever 3D projection mapping, illustrating the evolution of the mobile phone from it’s chunky beginnings to this very day. This one!

The Chase Film

This animated film from Intel to showcase the POWER of their new processor chips is nothing short of genius. Watch this Bourne-style heroine of a woman beat the bad guys at their game by using various common computer programs and software to escape to freedom. Sounds boring, but is very well done. Animation here.

Aliens (pre-school)

Those peeps over in the far east have finally beaten me to the bullet and designed a commercial Alien-killer robot. Damn, I thought I’d get there first. Following on from Tomy’s Mogwai and Fisher-price’s Ewok vaporizer, I thought my angle on Sigourney Weaver’s franchise was mine to behold! Alas not!

I immediately applaud whoever made this and have added it to my Santa Claus Amazon list as a High Priority item. I must have one. “It will be mine, oh yes, it will be mine!”

Check this ultimate Christmas gift out here.

Autonomous Quadrotor

We are doomed!

You’ve probably seen these gizmos somewhere before now, but engineers and scientists have only gone and given them an upgrade. From what I understand, the components remain virtually the same, but clever programming now allows the flying machines to do some pretty spectacular manoeuvres. For instance, as this video shows, they have the ability to correct themselves from an awkward take off or sudden jolt and return to stable flight – all without human control. Also, and this is cool, they are able to fly through a hoop which has been thrown into the air, calculate where it needs to be and complete the manoeuvre without touching the sides of the hoop.

Pretty cool engineering but does this remind anyone of the Hunter Killers from the Terminator films? Complete with their own intelligence a la Skynet, these things single-handedly spell the end of human civilisation as we know it…but I’d still like one for Christmas.

Real-life Hunter Killer in action.

Rain Rain Go Away

Bloomin’ miserable day today weather-wise. I haven’t left the house all day, but I did find a cool little app for iPhone which takes retro style photos with a variety of cameras and lenses. It’s called ‘Hipstamatic’ and is available from the App Store.
