Timelapse: Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta

This is a quite spectacular time-lapse video of a hot air balloon festival. You are never too old to appreciate a balloon (or several hundred!)

It’s also worth checking out Roadtrippers.com’s YouTube channel as their other videos are pretty great too!

50 Movie Star You Didn’t Know Had Changed Their Name

Olivia Wilde

(And A Few You Did)…

Here’s a link to Empire Magazine’s feature on the stars of Hollywood that have changed their names for one reason or another.

You know these types of things come up regularly in pub quizzes, so swot up! My favourite has to be that of Hollywood starlet Olivia Jane Cockburn (better known as Olivia Wilde).

The Simpsons Halloween Opening Credits

Guillermo del Toro’s take on The Simpson’s opening credits.
Lots of nods to horror classics but my favourite one here is The Birds. Check it out:

It’s nearly time for the luvvies of Hollywood to congregate at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles for the 85th Academy Awards. To celebrate the 85th year, a wonderful poster has been produced by artist Olly Moss.

Like the Aliens poster that I posted previously, this one requires a closer look too. Click the image for the full resolution image of the poster.

85 statuettes standing to mark the 85 years of the Oscars, each statuette adopting the persona of the film that won the Best Picture Award for that particular year. Quite an achievement with some of them so subtle, you might find it hard to figure out which film it represents. Check out 1988s statuette and be amazed at the subtlety!

How many can you get right? Here’s a full list of winners year by year to see how well/badly you did.

Amazing Poster for Aliens

At first glance this might just look like a rather fuzzy, low-resolution image of a poster for 80s film Aliens. Take a closer look though. Click here to be taken to said closer look.

The poster is made up of 10, 126 tiny individual images, each of a scene from the movie. Very cleverly done – but you must click the link to fully appreciate it where you are able to zoom in and explore the poster more clearly. As an indcator of how big this image is, it is 8127 x 12302 and 100 megapixels.

J.J. Abrams :-)

J.J. Abrams

I have a bit of thing for J.J. Abrams. I’ve watched near enough everything he’s produced and am nearly always blown away by his mind. Love Love Loved LOST and stuck with it until the end and was completely satisfied with the conclusion. Alias, whilst being bonkers, was also a favourite. Cloverfield…brilliant fun! When it comes to secrecy, Mr Abrams is known for being a master of it. Deceit, trickery, false leads, false names, everything is kept under wraps waiting for the big release day.

In a break from this, Abrams granted one Star Trek fan the ultimate wish: to see the as yet unreleased Star Trek Into Darkness ahead of everyone else.
