OVERVIEW

Another fascinating video documentary over on Vimeo.

This one marks the fortieth anniversary of the famous photo of Earth taken from space. The planet was likened to a ‘blue marble’ and became an iconic photo.

This documentary looks at astronauts experience of seeing the Earth for the first time from space.

Frightening Stuff

How Wolves Change Rivers

Living in London, this is not something that I have witnessed first hand. Foxes on the other hand…

Regardless, this short documentary is very interesting and it’s amazing to see how small changes can have massive repercussions.

Veep

God, I love Veep and I have a bit of a thing for Julia Louis-Dreyfus. She’s awesome – watch Veep for proof!

Is it me, or is American politics just cooler than UK politics?! I can’t imagine Maggie Thatcher, Neil Kinnock or Gordon Brown aping themselves like this.

5★ Sochi

Russian Dos and Don'ts

So Sochi is in full swing now. Aside from the Olympic rings not opening properly (and these becoming available from appropriately named ‘DeadRingerDesign’), Germany’s AMAZING pro gay silent protest uniforms and there not actually being very much in the way of real snow at the Winter Olympics, everything has been win-win for Russia.

An Olympic athlete photographed and posted the above pic from the Sochi Olympic Village where he or she was staying. Just in case any of the athletes do not know how to use a toilet, Russian officials genius’s have come up with a how-to guide. The first two I get, but what the hell is going on with the ‘No Fishing’ and ‘No Cocktail Parties on the Floor’ graphics. Those are both totally acceptable in our household!

There’s been quite a bit of coverage about the Olympic Village athlete’s accommodations and their state of disrepair. Following on from the hugely successful London 2012, let’s face it, anything and everything was going to be crap in comparison. However the full extent of Sochi’s Village of Horrors can be seen here.

On a brighter note, best of luck to all the athletes competing. I am of course rooting for the Jamaican bobsled team. Cool Runnings!!

Elephants Reunited After 20 Years

Jenny and Shirley are two former circus elephants that were reunited two decades after being separated. They say an elephant never forgets. Check out this video about them being reunited and if you don’t at least well up then you’re a cold hearted monster.

Photoshop Transformation Music Video

Photoshop

Photoshop is a great tool, without a doubt, but this French music video highlights the moral implications of its use in society these days. Everyone knows that models and celebrities are ‘Photoshopped’ on the front of magazine covers but I didn’t realise the extent of the tools power. This can be seen in this music video where some French singer warbles on as her face is retouched and transformed from perfectly pretty to a Mila Kunis look-a-like.

I’ve no idea what she is singing about; she could be singing “My face looks so much better Photoshopped” “I worship the power of Adobe” but judging by the tone of the video, I think it’s a statement about how unrealistic and unattainable Photoshop perfection is.

Note: This is not Adobe Photoshop being used in this video. I use the term as readers will generally know of the verb ‘to Photoshop’.
